Ed Schultz- a moderate Democrat or a moderate Republican? |
|
Does anyone here listen to Ed Shultz? I can't quite pin him down- he sounds like a Republican, but seems to be presented as a moderate Democrat- Yet takes offense to being called a progressive. I have a hunch he's further to the right than he lets on-what do you all think?

3. He used to be a Republican. He hunts which really pisses me off, but then there are Dems that hunt |
|
He has guns, which really pisses me off, but then there are Dems that have guns. He is very very very pro-union, which I LOVE since unions are the nemesis of corporations. He is a Democrat tho. A lot of Republicans listen to him. To know what he stands for, tho, read his book. It might be in your library. You'll see he really really is a Dem.

5. A businessman first - has the voice to be Rush-like. I find him moderate |
|
to slightly left - have to admit that for the most part I think he has a pretty good show. Pales in comparison to my fave, Stephanie Miller...but his time works better for me than hers.

6. i listen to him as much as i can |
|
time constraints keep me from tuning in at times.
he does reach out to many of the blue-collared and give them a voice on his show when they call in. And he'll tear a new one on the righties when they do.
some will say he's not as informed as he should be. I tend to believe he's as informed as he could be. He's no Noam Chomsky. But he's got the airwave, and tries to put in our perspective at most times. I try to give him a benefit of the doubt.
my 2 cents. dp

7. Ed is great!....I listen to him almost every day. |
|
He's an ex-conservative, but he's very progressive now. He is sometimes not as informed on issues as he should be, and certainly nowhere near the degree of we political/news junkies on DU, but generally he knows what's up.
He's a rabid fascist-fighter, and hands the muther-fuckers their asses every day on his show.
He has great guests, doesn't screen his calls, and allows right-wingers to call and demonstrate their ignorance (Like Thom Hartman does)
I love his show, and defend him often on this board, where he has a lot of detractors.

That should make many around here who like us shooting ourselves in the foot pretty happy.
I like him pretty well. The good thing about him being a moderate Democrat is that he can press progressive issues and not sound like a left wing looney.
Those at DU who don't accept anyone except for the most radical liberals don't get the value of this.
He can communicate with centerists who can be open to our beliefs.

9. He has been over the top against Clinton lately |
|
He is a mixed bag, mostly slightly towards the Dem/progressive/labor side of things. He sometimes fails to do his homework. I have had to turn him off for about the last week or so because he was shouting more than usual.
I have a problem with too many of the radio hosts being poorly prepared.

Our station replaced him with Rachel Maddow. I like her but often get bored with the show and tune out. I used to love listening to Ed even though I didn't always agree with him.
And who is this Phil Henry character that our "progressive" station has put on after Rachel now? The guy is completely loony tunes.

Well the first thing to know if it is Hendrie is that it is comedy, and almost all of the voices are him. The callers are Phil. He uses a couple of actors as well. But if it is Hendrie, it is all a sham, not reality at all. Scripted, written, and preformed. Also Hedrie backed GW Bush and is not exactly a liberal...Now if it is Phil Henry I have no idea.

Saw potential $$$ in being a big fish in the small pond of progressive talk vs being a small fish in the ocean of RW talk...

14. Why was ED having an on air feud with AIR America and some of it's hosts? |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 04:00 AM by Angry Mollusk
A couple years back Ed Shultz has butting heads with Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes,Sam Seder, and pretty much Air America as a whole-Does anyone know the source of that feud? I think it was Rhandi who said Shultz was a Republican 'pretending' to be a Democrat.
I like Ed's show..just sometimes I don't think he's liberal enough... Well, thats why i usually tune into Mike Malloy these days

Perhaps sometimes he shares the same views as some Republicans, but I believe he is a progressive. At least that's my personal opinion.
