Just to check out the "other side" |

I listened to some of Glenn Beck's radio show yesterday. He was "fear Obama" based most of the time. What really got me was the militant tone at times and the slimy passive/aggressive nature which when read between the lines was advocating violence against Obama.
It's not overt but right up to the line.
Can anything be done about this?
Who monitors these shows?

1. I caught Sean Hannity on Wednesday. |
|
Surfing my Sirius radio on the way home from work I came across Sean Hannity. What a freekin' idiot! He had Obama somewhere to the left of Tommy Chong! No wonder the freepers are so screwed up!

2. In answer to your questions: |

Can anything be done about this?
No. There's that pesky First Amendment thingy.
Who monitors these shows?
You do, apparently.

3. I listened to Dave Ramsey yesterday, a christian conservative financial counseling radio show, |
|
People were calling up asking what they should do about starting new businesses and saving money for the future since Obama is now president. The callers acted as if the world was going to end. At least Dave Ramsey told the truth. Though he didn't (obviously) vote for Obama he said for everyone to calm down. Don't postpone your dreams or your education just because a Democrat was in office. No legislation has been introduced on anything and Obama was not going to come down and take all your money, if you are not making more than $250,000 a year don't worry about it.
I couldn't believe how these idiot callers have swallowed the right-wing political lies. They honestly believe that once in office, Obama is going to turn the US into Venezuela. They honestly think that come January, when Obama is sworn into office, all commerce will end.
If I were a republicon, I would be seriously angry at the party for making me afraid of something that doesn't exist.

4. We used to have this thing called "The Fairness Doctrine"... |
|
It's destruction during the Reagan administration paved the road for all the right-wing hate-mongers.
Some have suggested bringing it back..It seems like a good idea, but probably won't fly..Too much money and Repub-Corporate interests at stake.
CNN, imho, has gone further to the right than MSNBC -- For starters, the latter has Keith and Rachel -- CNN has Beck and Dobbs.
That being said, I think most of the Mainstream Media skewers to the Right, so I watch as little as I can of it.
Beyond that kind of "passive" approach, I do believe we "need to do something"..I'm not sure exactly what that is besides the conventional approach of boycotting sponsors, writing letters, etc.
There are a few groups which focus on media reform...One in Chicago is called "Fight Big Media"..They may have chapters elsewhere..I, for one, am checking them out.
