DU as my prime source of news

A funny thing has happened to me.

I'm relatively new here at DU - been lurking for a year, posting for a couple of months. I'm not your rabid left winger. I had to sort of flip a coin to decide between DU and FreeRepub (just kidding...). I'm just your normal everyday..uh...Joe.

I used to get up in the morning and turn on CNN or go to the CNN website. Now, I first go to DU. Why? Well, believe it or not, I think it covers more news, more in depth, and is more entertaining. Yup, turns out the mass talking heads here at DU hold my interest more than the few talking heads at the major news stations. You simply get more detailed info, more points of view, and, you can become part of it. Even the financial page is better. So, I decided to also look at your sports page and cooking forums.

What I'd really like, of course, is some better way to sit back, relax, and read the evening DU with my wife and dog, without having to sit up at this computer workstation.

1. If you use DU as a primary source of news, you're heading for an information gap.

All kinds of newsy crap gets dumped here, but if you're not going to real news outlets, you view will be entirely distorted.

2. Same here. LBN is the first place I check in the morning.

I don't even turn on the TV until 6:00 (I'm usually up at 4:00ish). Very often, the latest breaking hits here an hour or so before the networks start reporting it.

3. The discussion here can be OK, but for my prime souce of lefty news I go to HuffPost

I find the articles and op/eds there a lot more informed and informative than in the DU monkey-echo-chamber.

5. I agree.

I didn't even look at FreeRepublic twice. It is such a horrible forum both in style and content.

I also actually like all the speculation, rumors, gossip and jokes that we get on DU because there will always be that nugget of surprising information that you won't find anywhere else.

On edit: I do also watch TV news (mainly CNN) in the evening. If there is a news item I'm interested in (or have an opinion on) I'll then come to DU to find out more.

6. BEWARE !!!

I've been here for almost eight years.........AND I CAN'T GET OUT!

Don't expect anyone here to show you the exit. I've been wandering from forum to forum trying to find a way out, and THERE IS NO EXIT!

I've been eating over at the food forum and sleeping in the lounge. You can kill time over at the sports forums or just read GD for hours, but if you try to leave....forget it!

I think I died a few years back and am now stuck in DU pergatory.

Please! HElp me get my wings!

You've reminded me why I need to donate to DU again this fund drive.
I hadn't gotten around to it this time, but since DU is the place I usually go to first, and find news items that I'm interested in here first, I really should support it with a few dollars.

You might want to do the same...
