Now that we NO LONGER have an anti-gay president...will CBS get rid of those godawful "KNOW" ads? |
|
Edited on Wed May-06-09 02:47 AM by Ken Burch
You know, the ones that are supposedly about AIDS but refuse to actually give out any information about it or about how to avoid getting it?
Could we now, possibly, get new television ads that actually use words like "condom" and "dental dam"?
Just wondering.

2. We USED to. We DON'T now. READ the thread title again for clarity. |

The point is, Obama's election should mean the climate of repression that led CBS to produce such "non-PSA PSA's" as the "KNOW" ads has lifted and we should push for them and the other networks to put REAL AIDS information out.

3. Yes, I read the title... |

I also know that Mr. Obama has been quietly scrubbing his gay-friendly promises from the website. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=221&topic_id=128275He is anti-marriage-equality. When marriage equality passed in Iowa we got this comment: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=221&topic_id=124970I won't deny he's less anti-gay than the other choice, but at the moment I have yet to see much to prove he's really standing with me.

5. Anti-Gay....so when does he work to get rid of "Don't Ask Don't Tell?" |
|
With Secretary Gates indicating that DADT will be "pushed down the road a bit" and no action being taken on changing the policy, how can anyone say Obama supports gays? I realize you are probably being a bit fasicious, but come on.... who is going to speak out on behalf of our troops serving in silence? You don't see many posts on here complaining about the policy, because those most affected can't say anything without fear of being discharged. Something needs to change!
How about someone starts a post recommending Elena Kagan as the new Supreme Court Associate Justice? She is strongly opposed to DADT and if Obama appointed her -- it would at least show that he is -- as you say, "anti-gay." We need someone like her!

6. We have a less anti-gay President |
|
But frankly, that has little to do with those PSAs. AIDS is the number one killer of African American women aged 24-35, and the vast majority of them are not gay. So to care about good education on the subject, one only has to give a rip about the people who are dying from it, and they are far from all gay.

7. I agree with you that AIDS affects all. |
|
My point was that those ads are so uninformative because they're driven by the fear of challenging a mindset that AIDS shouldn't be discussed openly and protection against it shouldn't be discussed with the public because it's still seen by some as a "gay" disease.
I didn't say I agreed with that mindset.
