It'sTime To Get Lou Dobbs And His Hate Speech Off The Air |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-11-09 07:49 PM by Bobbieo
Yesterday, our friends at Media Matters for America, who are dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media, caught Lou Dobbs promoting hate and inciting violence towards Governor Howard Dean.
With violence from right-wing extremist groups on the rise and Republican backed mobs hanging cardboard versions of members of congress in effigy, Lou Dobbs' statement is dangerous. Enough is enough. It's time for CNN and the United Stations Radio Network to fire Lou Dobbs.
This isn't the first time Lou Dobbs has used the air waves to promote hate and embarrass CNN.
His relentless promotion of debunked, racially charged conspiracy theories about President Obama's birth certificate have already seriously damaged CNN's credibility. Yet, Lou Dobbs remains on the air.
Now, he's gone too far. He's not just making CNN look bad, he's inciting violence to stop Governor Dean from fighting for President Obama's health insurance option. That's not just un-American, it's irresponsible and dangerous.
It's up to us to make sure CNN and the United Stations Radio Network know we've had enough.
CALL NOW AND DEMAND LOU DOBBS BE TAKEN OFF THE AIR - CNN - (404) 827-1500
United Stations Radio Network New York – (212) 869-1111 Los Angeles – (310) 268-9292
This isn't just about my brother Howard; this is about the America we all want to live in. Jim Dean, Chair Democracy for America

1. It's time to stamp out censorship. |
|
Free speech means everyone, even if you don't like what they're saying.

2. No one can "censor" anything except the government. |

Private entities are free to use the airwaves to which they hold license for whatever they want, provided it's legal. If a government tells these private entities what they can and can't say, that's censorship. Dobbs' incendiary language and calls for revolt could conceivably be considered incitement to riot, or outright sedition. As crimes, he could be prosecuted for them. But that wouldn't be censorship. It would be law enforcement.

6. The airwaves belong to the public. Private entities can't do what ever they want. We the people own |
|
the airwaves and and collectively, democratically decide what the private bastards can and can't do. The Constitution does NOT apply to CorpAmerica.

7. Cable is not on the airwaves and not subject to FCC jurisdiction. |
|
So we couldn't decide what he can do on CNN but CNN management could. His radio show would be subject to FCC jurisdiction so your point is correct there.

private industry, you are correct does have every right to fire dobbs. dobbs is an idiot, and a birther enabler.
but to even imply he has done anything criminal is laughable.

and fwiw, every time i make a post like this somebody will always claim i am "defending" XXX. i got this in the oreilly/tiller thang when the maddening hordes were calling for his criminal prosecution etc. because he called tiller "the baby killer" and thus was responsible for "incitement". it is nice to see some level heads here who don;t instantly start screaming "fire in a crowded theater. it's illegal" any time somebody says something inane from the right (which is of course quite often) :)

I took the high road and said, " CNN should be better than LOU Dobbs. CNN needs to always take the high road and Dobbs has now decided to take the low road. etc."

14. You guys have it all wrong. |
|
According to the locals here, civil rights are the thing they have, the way they define it, and they are the things other people wished they had.
And we say...but what about common law, that thing the founders said goes without saying?
They didn't say it and put it in the constitution so it doesn't apply.
