The best thing about the idiots using this example is the way they castigate the Brits for having "socialized medicine", but Mr. Hawking has availed of the DHS for all his life.
The Brits got government health care shortly after the end of the WWII, about the same time as President Harry Truman decided that it would be a good idea for the US to have it as well. 63 years later and we still don't have anything close to what the rest of Western Europe has with the exception of the VA and Medicare...
My husband and I own a home in Northern Ireland and if this health care reform doesn't pass this year, we intend to remove ourselves from American soil and live where at least we will have some kind of healthcare. It'll be another 15 years for someone to take on the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies, and the stupid American people who still see a government provided healthcare as "socialized, aka RED MENACE, medicine.
