It's interesting ... one conservative media figure claims that Obama ignored |
|
"American exceptionalism", and another conservative media figure claims that Obama focused too much on "American exceptionalism" ...
it reminds me of a "mystery" story where a "bookie service" sent out predictions about a sports tournament ...
When there were 16 teams, he sent out 16 letters to different people, predicting that the team would win game X - each letter had a different team.
After the first round, the bookie sent out 8 letters to the people whom he sent the "winning team" letters to, predicting each team to win (again, covering every team in the tournament).
After the second round, 4 more letters went out to the winning 4 people ...
Third round, 2 more letters predicting the winner ... and this time, saying "stick with me, see? My prediction has come true! Send me X $$$ to bet on team (insert)!"
Repugniconvicts are using the idea that they can say anything they want, and the media will go to the one which was "right" ...

3. It means that America is above the law |
|
We make the laws, others obey them. Think 'manifest destiny'.
It is its own negative spin - it doesn't need any other.

4. Exceptionalism is something believed in empires |
|
Somehow the people are different from any who came before ... better. God has chosen this race, this nation, this empire and put it above all others and will always be "on their side."
The Dutch believed when they had an empire, as did the Germans, and the British.
At this point in our history, the rest of the world is no longer looking to us as "special." They are looking more and more to China and India. We just don't realize this because we are so busy waving our foamy fingers that say "We're Number 1!"
