Is South Park still funny? |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-24-11 11:42 AM by redqueen
Is the fact that they manage to be on the wrong side of just about every political issue they mock somehow humorous? Is that the joke?
The most recent episode has them analogizing WikiLinks to a gossip site. It's not as bad as their past howlers, but still... I just don't understand how it can be fun for any politically aware person to watch, when they use their show to be so preachy and so slavishly right wing.

Something must first become funny before it can be "still" funny.

6. But apparently you don't need one to enjoy SP. |
|
Might even be contra-indicated.

Most left-leaning people who like the show seem to excuse away or rationalize the show's constant idiocy re: political matters by claiming that it's no big deal because nobody cares about their politics.
Others say that a good portion of a generation of young minds is being polluted by the creators' preferred brand of political idiocy.

5. What are their politics? |
|
I know Norman Lear officiated at one of the two,s wedding, they lampoon religion, wore dresses to the Oscars and say thet were on LSD at the time. Book Of Mormon :The Musical is hilarious. Go see that, it is intended for more general consumption than sp ever was.

8. they said that they are "neutral", but they find "bashing liberals is much easier" ... |
|
Of course ... bullies love that ...
The liberal bashing is probably why the RWers tolerate the minor mocking of Jesus done by the creators ...
Remember, they bowed down to the RWers when they were going to do "That's My Bush" ... when the RWers found that the creators of SP were going to portray the Bush twins as inferred "lesbians", the axe came down. They pulled that concept out quickly ...

10. Well, that's probably because of the "PC" factor. |
|
Republicans feel free to use bigoted terms, words that have fallen out of favor because they are perceived as insulting, stereotypical, insensitive, and so forth. They don't lose sleep if they use a term that a group of people might find offensive (Examples--cripple, midget, retarded, to name a few).
Democrats and liberals often get exorcised when an insulting or denigrating term is used, and often, instead of just saying "You asshole, don't say that, it's not cool," they launch into a history lecture to edify the speaker of their error-- and that didactic, hectoring quality is very easy to poke fun at. I've seen it happen here when someone uses a "wrong" term--the whole "How dare you" theme can go on forever.
Of course, on the bright side, in order to be hectoring or didactic, you have to have half a brain, at least. Many of the wingnuts seem to lack even that allocation.
But that is a big part of their "appeal." They're the ones who say the things that are not "PC" to say.

7. Try watching it 'as if'... |
|
What is disgusting and offensive to you as a (presumed) liberal, imagine seeing the same bit 'as if' you were a conservative.
What is insulting and offensive to you as a Christian, imagine seeing the same bit 'as if' you were an atheist.
What is insulting and offensive to you as an atheist, imagine seeing the same bit 'as if' you were a Christian.
Every cause has its sacred cows, and when they see a sacred cow they are bound to sneak in at midnight and tip it.
If something offends you, what you need to do is examine WHY it offends.

However based on what I have seen, they only seem to bash left-leaning politicians and celebrities. Maybe I missed all the episodes where they hammered Ann Coulter or some other rightwinger.
I suppose it was the seeming near-consensus on them being of a libertarian:eyes:/rightwing slant that made me think it was actually a fact. Perhaps it really isn't, and they really are more fair and balanced than most seem to perceive. I would truly like it if that were the case.

They trash everybody. Liberals are part of "everybody", so Matt and Trey aren't going to pull punches just for us, y'know?

|
they are libertarians... which explains alot really if you think about it..
but in fairness.. while they do lean to the right in their message/viewpoints they always manage to poke fun at everyone involved.
atleast 99% of the time ;) heh
the show is hit or miss these days as far as being funny tho if you ask me..
i dont mind to laugh at my own viewpoint every once and a while.
