Poll question: Poll - Who Is Your Favorite Republican |
|
Edited on Fri May-14-04 08:34 PM by iamjoy
I know it sounds crazy, but just as Zell Miller is a traitor to the Democratic party and much slobbered over by the ConSWERVatives there are Republicans who don't always vote the Republican platform or who have shown courage in standing up to the current administration (at least once).
Sometimes I wonder if, with the right coaxing, these people couldn't be persuaded to come over to our side. And some of them just seem like decent folks.
Feel free to say why you like (or respect) a particular one.

I really think he means no harm, but he is serving to honor his dad who was a liberal Republican.. He the Zell Miller of the right wing-they hate him for his votes with us.
I really can't help but like him, even if he does help enable the 'thugs to maintain senate control.

Yes, I know that he is deceased, and I didn't agree with him on lots of stuff, but the older he got, the more he came around to my way of thining. If he'd have lived another decade or two, he would be here with us on DU...

Jim Kolbe, now I don't care for much of their National work, but at home they both are good guys - take time for the constituents, etc Kolbe even answers his own phone sometimes!

He is from Indiana. I didn't put him in the poll because he is so Conservative it isn't even funny. However, I have seen him on Crossfire several times and he always behaves like a gentleman.
I want Democrats or liberal Republicans in government, but if we must have true Conservatives, I'd rather they at least be polite. I know some people wouldn't care what kind of manners the person screwing them has.
My father also says John Mica (rep from FL) is a good guy. My Dad is moderate and Mica's very conservative, but Dad says he is a nice man in person.

He won't ever be a Democrat, but maybe, if the Democrats can get enough power in Texas to weaken the GOP stranglehold, he'll return to being an official Libertarian. I disagree with him on many things, but I have been proud of the way he has stood up to the neo-conservatives and has been willing to work with progressives on civil liberties issues.

but John McCain is the only Republican I would trust with my life. He is the only Republican I hold a little respect for(even though he takes it in the ass for the * and the Neocons and likes it). anyone that was a POW like he was deserves that much, no matter what pt there from.

He's always good for a laugh. Oh, and did you hear the joke:
"Pfzer is coming out with a generic form of Oxycontin. They're going to call it 'Rush's Rush'.
Seriously, I like McCain. He just seems normal and COMPASSIONATE conservative.

http://selectsmart.com/president/trivia.htmlAccording to this chart, George W. Bush considers Teddy Roosevelt to be one of his favorite presidents. Maybe he should take a few examples from this man and adopt a more environmentally sound policy.

22. Congressman Tom Tancredo |
|
When it comes to trade, Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo (CO) is one of the best. He is the most outspoken critic of Bush's immigration policy and is probably the most outspoken critic on both sides when it comes to H1B, L1B work visas that replace American workers with under-paid foreign workers.

I remember being baffled by shrub beating McCain in the 2000 primaries. And relieved as there was no way I could imagine the butt of all political jokes actually "winning" the election with his incoherent speech pattern making a fool of himself in every live appearance.
Had McCain won the primaries the US would have had a republican president even without the help of brother Jeb (imo). I was divided myself on who to like in the question of Gore vs McCain, even if I've never voted right of the middle in the elections of my own country.
Up until the tragedy of 9/11 the shrub presidency was pure gold to talk-show hosts all over the globe. Nobody's laughing now.
