Hazmat testing sticky substance in envelope
EDINBURG - Eight people have been taken to the hospital after an envelope with a suspicious substance was found in Edinburg.
The people are employees at the Edinburg Regional Medical Center Administration building, which is located near the hospital. They were taken to the emergency room for decontamination.
A hospital spokesperson says it's a precautionary measure. The eight people are reportedly doing fine.
Emergency crews were at the scene after a call came in around 10:30 a.m. There was a suspicious package in the lobby.
A sticky substance was found.
A Hazmat team with the McAllen Fire Department is analyzing the substance. Hidalgo County Health Inspectors and a Sheriff's unit is also on the scene.
The package was reportedly sent from a prison, but there was no threat inside.More:
