LANCASTER, Pa. -
Officers from Lancaster County's haz-mat team and a Pennsylvania state police bomb squad investigated a suspicious package found Wednesday morning at Lancaster General Health Campus.
After a four-hour inspection of the small box, investigators opened the package, which contained a discarded piece of medical equipment, according to LGH spokesman John Lines.
Safety precautions were taken, Lines said, because the package had a "suspicious message" written on it. Also, a soft humming sound was coming from inside the box.
Lines declined to say what was written on the box.

A housekeeper found the box about 10 a.m. in an area of a basement that holds medical waste, Lines said.

A pump found inside was used to suction bodily fluids during surgery and had malfunctioned, so a hospital employee discarded it.

Lines said it was discarded because it contained fluids that were considered biohazards.
