Description:
The death of an 11-year-old San Antonio girl hospitalized with the flu pushes to six the number of Texas children to die from flu-related causes this season.
Roger Sanchez, an epidemiologist with the Metropolitan Health District in San Antonio, says the flu season is still going strong and is affecting young adults and school-age kids.
The San Antonio girl's death follows that of a 16-year-old Williamson County girl who died two weeks ago after coming down with the flu. Neal Pascoe, of the Texas Department of State Health Services, says it's not clear if the flu season has peaked.
Flu typically peaks in January or February, but it can happen in March. Health officials say it's still beneficial to get a flu shot to ward off the sickness.
