Description:
Authorities hope to know what caused a large fish kill at laing lake in Alliance by tomorrow.
Hundreds of fish could be seen floating in shallow water along the shoreline or wedged between rocks early yesterday afternoon.
The dead fish range in species and size. Alliance Parks Director Heather Hauptman says assume for the moment that it was a winter fish kill caused by a possible depletion in oxygen.
Oxygen depletion often occur during severe winters when entire bodies of water remain frozen for long periods of time. Hauptman says an aquatic biologist from Colorado will examine the fish tomorrow.
Until the biologists arrive, the fish will not be removed.
