Lisbon- Portugal will close its embassy in Baghdad for
security and financial reasons, media reports said Thursday.
Foreign Minister Luis Amado has informed Baghdad about the
decision, adding that Portugal will continue to "firmly support" the
reconstruction of Iraq.
Lisbon will retain an administrative office in a security zone
housing foreign embassies.
When security improves, an ambassador resident in Lisbon will be
charged with relations with Iraq and the Gulf countries, according to
foreign ministry sources.
