The Ferry Puyallup, which runs from Seattle to Bainbridge Island, was taken out of service for several hours after staff members found a suspicious package on board, ferry officials said.
Officials said staff members found a backpack in a garbage can on the solarium deck during routine inspections after Ferry Puyallup unloaded at Bainbridge Island.
Ferry Puyallup's 3:50 service was cancelled and the ferry was taken out of service to allow officers to conduct a thorough security sweep. Upon finding no further reason to detain the ferry, officers returned the ferry back to service around 6:30 p.m.
The Ferry Wenatchee continued to offer service between Bainbridge Island and Seattle. However, the cancelled ferry run caused some a backup.
