BOMB squad officers were called out to deal with a suspicious package in Kirkby this morning.
Officers cordened off a section of Beulah Road at around 9.10am and evacuated neighbouring homes while a specialist team from Chilwell's Chetwynd Army Barracks dealt with the package.
Speaking at the scene Sgt Nick Butler, of Kirkby Police, told Chad: "There was a loud bang yesterday evening and we were made aware that there was some slight damage to a house on Beulah Road.
"We were then made aware that there was a further suspicious package in the rear garden of the same property.
"We have appraised the situation and we have had to call out a specialist team to make sure the item is safe to handle.
"As a result of that we have put a number of safety measures in place such as the cordon and evacuating neighbouring homes."
