Bomb Squad Detonates Suspicious Package Near Lewis Gale Medical Center

The state police bomb squad detonates a suspicious package near Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem this evening.

The small gray box was found in a tree near the hospital. Lewis Gale Medical Center spokeswoman Nancy May says a patient spotted the suspicious package around 3:00 p.m., near a group of offices across from the Emergency Room entrance.

Police have closed off the area, and the hospital is still taking patients.
