Officers from the Virginia State Police Bomb Squad removed a suspicious box in a tree outside Lewis-Gale Medical Center early evening July 19, but decided it was not a bomb.
Hospital officials notified Salem Police who, in turn, called in the state bomb squad.
Hospital spokesperson Nancy May said the object was in a tree near the east side of the medical building. Because of its location, no one was ever in danger and no one was ever evacuated, said May, who is director of marketing and public relations at Lewis-Gale.
