Suspicious package stops train service
15 August 2007
HEERENVEEN - A suspicious package disrupted train service to and from Heerenveen in Friesland for three hours on Tuesday afternoon. The unattended piece of baggage had Arabic characters on the outside. Train service was gradually resumed from about 7 pm.
The bag was found at Heerenveen station just after 5 pm. A spokesperson for the police says Arabic text was written on the outside of the bag.
A team from the Explosives Removal Service (EOD) came to Heerenveen to examine the package.
Rail infrastructure manager ProRail reports that the contents were found to be harmless.
A police spokesperson said the bag contained "equipment with buttons," but could not give any more specific description of the item.
