Some Durant school children had to leave their classrooms and evacuate their elementary school after a suspicious package was found on the playground.

Many parents felt the same as Karen Vick when they heard the news that a suspicious item was found on the playground. Durant Police say at 9 a.m. A student found a briefcase ducked taped to the top of a slide.
School officials called police and within 20 minutes the Pre-k through 3rd grade students were evacuated and taken to the nearby intermediate school. By 1 p.m. More than half of the evacuated students were picked up early by concerned parents.
And school officials say many other students at other schools were picked up, as well. Authorities waited 3 hours for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad to arrive from Oklahoma City and remove the package. A robot was used to shoot at the package, and when nothing exploded, crews were able to open the case. They found nothing inside.
