Croswell bomb scare leads to drug discovery
October 7, 2008
An object police believed could could have been an explosive device shut down three blocks in Croswell for four hours yesterday, until it was discovered to be a container for drugs.
According to a release from the Croswell Police Department, the owner of an apartment on the 100 block of Mills Street was cleaning the unit out yesterday after a tenant moved out Sunday. The owner discovered an object he believed to be a pipe bomb, and contacted Croswell Police at about 1:30 p.m.
The department inspected the device, then contacted the Michigan State Police Bomb Unit from the Bridgeport crime lab. The bomb unit removed the object with a robot, which broke it open in the yard.
It contained about two ounces of marijuana, said Croswell Police Chief David Hall.
"That's probably what threw us in the beginning," Chief Hall said. "We never even thought about that."
