Is Obama going to reject applicants for his administration if they own a gun? If no, then why ask |
|
the following question? (59) Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage. 56. I'm certain they will do the standard criminal background check |
|
if they broke the law, why would it matter if they used a gun, you'd think any criminal activity beyond minor driving violations would be sufficient.
Like asking if they own a car in an indirect way to ask if they've ever committed vehicular manslaughter. Doesn't make much sense.

25. Since the FBI will work for Obama, they could ask that question. Why create a stir by including a |
|
question re guns on an application?
IMO it shows once again the gross ignorance of someone on Obama's team not unlike the statement on Obama's site saying assault weapons belong on the battle field, not the streets.

And in today's climate they may want MORE gun owners so they can reassure the NRA, so a yes answer (as long as they are legal and all) could be a plus instead. You never know, ya know. Simply asking the question (IMHO anyway) should not be a discouragement.

50. Another example of the "CSI Effect," perhaps. |
|
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Csi_effectOnly a tiny handful of jurisdictions in the USA require registration, and of those, the registration is generally a one-time thing, so it can't "lapse." One would never know that from watching CSI (or most MSM network news), though.

42. I understand, perhaps, why they're asking, but the phrasing suggests |

that the staffer who wrote it is unfamiliar with U.S. gun law. It assumes registration, and that if registration exists, that it is possible for registration to "lapse". Some staffer has been watching too much CSI.

My answer to the registration questions would have to be "Not applicable".
California registrations for handguns, "assault weapons", and .50 BMG rifles don't expire; and there is no registration for ordinary shotguns, rifles, black powder firearms, and handguns owned since before registration began (1968).

Ask people any kind of question that requires a personal disclosure, and for which the answer can (at least in some cases) be verified.
Hopefully he is just looking for people who have clean records, are demonstrably honest, and are not subject to potential blackmail for any reason.

If someone's reputation blows up over an undisclosed gun issue, it is much easier to clean house later on the honesty issue than to make a termination decision based on (whatever) merit the actual issue has.

52. On the other hand, Einstein said "making a subject simple but not to simple" and the simple answer |
|
is the Obama administration has taken a step toward confirming the allegation "Barack Obama would be the most anti-gun president in history - bar none".
We Democrats defending the Second Amendment in DU's Guns-Fortress have supported Obama in our communities and states because we pro-RKBA Dems wanted to believe him when he said he supported the Second Amendment.
We pro-RKBA Dems wanted to believe Obama when he promised he would not take rifles, shotguns, and handguns even though we were wary because he never said he would not sign a bill renewing the assault weapons ban that affected the most popular firearms in the US.
Now Obama has come out of the closet and said he supports renewing the assault weapons ban, a goal of the Violence Policy Center, Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence, and arch gun-grabbers Dianne Feinstein, Ted Kennedy and Chuck Schumer, and the foundations that fund gun-grabber efforts like the Joyce Foundation and Annenberg Foundation.
To add insult to injury and fuel to the fire he starts his gun-control policy with "Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment".
IMO that will be taken by 80+ million gun-owners as an "in your face" affront and could help we Dems lose control of the House in 2010.
Exit polls say fifty three million voters have guns in their household, nineteen million voted for Obama and thirty three million for McCain.
If the economy is better in 2010 and things quiet down in the Middle East, IMO we Dems will have to fight very hard to keep control of the House.

Abortions, like guns are legal, but are touchy issues for canidates that oppose them. You think there'd be more than a little outrage on here if that had happened? Perhaps more than: well why not ask, what's the harm?
