Man wins gun lawsuit against Chicago |
|
http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/news/metro/jesus-duenas-wins-handgun-lawsuit-chicago-20110819"Duenas was arrested and charged with failure to register a firearm. He says he didn't register it because he says he couldn't find certified gun ranges in Chicago or in the suburbs.
Chicago is a big city, but there aren't gun ranges here because officials reportedly haven't found the right industrial site."I wonder how much taxpayer money Chicago is going to waste fighting the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms?

They have no intention of seriously complying with the SCOTUS ruling. The Ezell v. Chicago case ruling supports the very issue this guy raised. The city council and the mayor's office have had close to a year to get things moving and have so far passed two sets of laws that clearly violate the McDonald ruling (or to quote the Circuit Court judge; are "too cute by half") and make it physically impossible to comply with the "new" laws, as they wrote it themselves.
They don't think that the law or constitution applies to them. It hasn't in the past when Old Man Daley didn't want Black's voting in his city in the '60's, why should it apply now?
That's why the ISRA suit on CCW has called for a summary judgement. I'm betting this one will go the same way.
They know Chicago and the state will stall as long as they can, using the unlimited resource of taxpayer funds to support their favorite version of peasant control.
So far the collective legal tab for McDonald, Ezell etc. is $5 million ... and counting.
Next move should be to sue to force them to reopen the Lincoln Park Gun Club along the lake shore as a Park District facility.

3. The more they spend trying to control guns, the better. |
|
Even if the damn courts are so often set on endangering this country with their own gunnuttery.

5. Yeah, far more important than schools or cops or keeping firehouses open |
|
That's really close to the dumbest thing posted in the past few weeks and that's saying something.
You think they should spend tax money stalling obeying a SCOTUS case they already lost just to make you and your ilk feel all warm and fuzzy?
Hey, maybe you should work on getting CCW repealed in your own state before you start advising others of what's best for them?
Or are you just another self appointed "spokesmouth", like so many others here, that talks about gun control but never actually does anything but whine online?

7. That would entail spending *his own* money, not that of Chicago's taxpayers. |
|
Therefore, it will not happen.
Frankly, I doubt that any "spokesmouth" (as you so aptly described them) that has ever posted here has spent one thin dime more than they were required to (via taxes) in order to help pay the legal costs of any state or municipality that fought for gun control.
But they're all gung-ho for other taxpayers to do so, aren't they?

6. Spend more $ on gun-control. Poor tax-payer. On the other hand.. |
|
The gun-control/ban "movement" is the biggest factor in broadening the right to keep and bear arms. The NRA must be grateful. Keep it up!

8. Nice of you to volunteer other peoples' money to fight for what *you* believe in |
|
Which brings up the obvious question: How much of your own money have you contributed to Chicago's defense fund?
