|
whether or not this is the audience you want.
You're only going to get 2 reactions: disapproval or approval
The former hurts you -- and so will the latter. The kind of person that agrees with the sentitments in the OP may well be dangerous.
Remember that guy that shot the cops after listening to Glenn Beck? Surely you don't want one of those for your very own. You will, however, get plenty of news coverage if you do.

Appeals to hostility are wrong. People who thrive on hostility suffer from the same banality that has plagued our species with war and savagery for thousands of years.
Stop preaching hatred of "the other" and accept what this world really needs are people who courageous enough to build, not destroy.

Bullies dont respond to pleas of cant we all just get along. The elites must taste fear, or they will steamroll us all.
And we must get people to the polls. That takes extreme discontent, and some fear.

35. You claim its "a single OP" |
|
He claims to cite history
Aren't you fond of claiming past is prologue.
And it's not a single OP. This nonsense is getting louder and louder at this forum every day. Something stupid is going to happen and the forum is going to get swept up in it.
We don't have violent strike breakers today so the need to counter with violence or resort to hostile rhetoric is mystifying. Talk violently and the other side will respond by being on guard for violence. It's called escalation. How anyone could tolerate or encourage escalation over politics is tragic. Someone has to be rational. Do you really want violence in the streets of the US?
We ask the RWers and the middlers who hear them to step back and be reasonable when it comes to realizing that homosexuals, undocumented workers and the "swarthy skinned others" are not their enemy. Inane rants in mosques a thousand miles away have mushroomed into justifications for a global war. But why should those responding to those inane rants believe us when we tolerate chest-thumping mongerers in our midst. I'm starting to think the entire peace movement here was just a anti-GOP political prop. People here -- with rare exception -- only want peace and tolerance when it disarms others. All the while they're sharpening thei own knives for their own profits.
So much internet tough-guy talk. So little imagination for peace in the name of love for our fellow man.

As the tea party does all the insane ranting to get their side and issues attention and legitimacy, should should or must a faction of the Dem demographic be visibly pissed. Sure, let our leadership maintain decorum. But you had best have some that move the middle back at least till some of us recognize it. The middle has been shoved and hauled far to the right. And our measured tone aint gettin it where the status quo goes fascist.

17. The unspoken word is "gun". - Castle law. Good Samaritan law. |
|
Some variants of Castle Law permit "hot pursuit" of an offender caught in the act.
Good Samaritan laws can under certain circumstances permit a person to kill in defense of others.
Play fast and loose enough with creative reasoning, the two can be mashed together to justify a second ammendment solution to the banks, war mongers, insurers, oil companies, you name it.
But I suspect the US would have to go the way of Libya before there's any chance the argument would stand up.

Maybe if I knew the reason for the disposal, I'd have a clue what it's about ...
Is there something to do with firearms policy going on here?
edit ... reading some more, I'm getting some idea ... still nothing to do with firearms policy. Is this place really just the septic tank for disposal of unwanted threads from elsewhere? (no comment on this thread, just wondering about the reason for the transfer here)
When it comes to the right wing, I'm in favour of calling them what they are and not mincing words, myself.
For example, the anti-choice brigade seeks to violate women's fundamental human rights and to harm women. That is their goal. They can call themselves whatever they like, "pro-life" included, but their true and only goal is to have public policies adopted to ensure that women are treated like subhuman beings and to cause harm, up to and including death, to women.
The goal of people who oppose universal health care is to ensure that people suffer and die.
The right wing does not get to frame the issues, most especially when the issues are matters of life and death.
If calling them what they are exposes them to hatred and contempt ... who is responsible for that?
They're the ones who make their choices. Let them stand up and own them.
Am I getting the idea here? ;)
and further edit ... after reading a little further ... the subthread just above this ... I still don't think it has aything to do with firearms policy ...
Calling the right wing what it is, is one thing. This may be another.
The anti-choice brigade chooses to call its murders "defence of others" and the like. It loses tht argument.
The only way around the fact that pre-emptive homicide is not permissible in liberal democracies is to have a revolution. Then you're talking the collective right of self-determination, exercised against egregious wrongs.
Problem is, when you have the victims of the wrongs voting for the perpetrators of them, it ain't gonna happen.
