Investigators said Brewster was shot outside of a home on County Road 365 in Pisgah and not in her car as she originally reported. Investigators uncovered that Brewster may have been in the act of committing a felony burglary just before the shooting and that the victim of the robbery shot Brewster.

You just have to catch them in the act. Too bad it doesn't work for actual officers - somehow, catching them redhanded in the middle of a felony isn't enough excuse to defend yourself.

a LEO if they pose an unjustified threat to your life. But being legal doesn't necessarily mean that the event or likely subsequent arrest is survivable.

but I'd rather have the onus fall upon the thief than the alleged victim of the break-in and theft (let alone any alleged attempt to use a car as deadly weapon). Victims of crime should not be subject to the scales of proportionality and appropriateness after-the-fact. Let that fall upon the initiator of the felony.

Don't take shit that doesn't belong to you (something most 5 year olds can grasp) and when you get caught, don't try to run down the armed individual you're stealing from.
