Ohio laws go into effect today: "Non-Felony Forgiveness" and "Guns in Bars" |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-30-11 11:45 AM by OneTenthofOnePercent
Change to Ohio's Restoration of Rights Law:
Effective today, non-felony drug convictions (i.e. misdemeanor and minor misdemeanor) are no longer firearm disabilities under Ohio law. People with non-felony drug convictions do not need to take any action; they will automatically be relieved from disability and may again purchase and possess firarms. HOWEVER, any drug conviction, felony or otherwise, is still a disqualifier for the Ohio concealed carry license. Persons with non-felony drug convictions may still obtain and fully use other states' concealed carry licenses, so long as that state does not impose a drug conviction disqualifier.
Change to Ohio's Car Carry Provisions:
Effective Today, Ohio no longer places explicit restrictions on how someone with a concealed carry license may carry a gun in a vehicle. Stated another way, if you are alone in your car, whatever you want to do is fine. Personally, I have always wedged my gun between the front seats with the grip sicking out for access and now it's perfectly legal for me to continue to do so. If I'm a restaraunt where they serve acohol, I put the gun in the glovebox to hide it while im out of the vehicle... but wait...
Change to Ohio's Liquor Permit Prohibition:
Effective Today, Ohio's liquor permit prohibition, R.C. 2923.121, no longer applies to licensees gven that they do not consume alcohol on premesis and they are not already under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Basically, people can carry guns in bars just the same as they can carry in public. Looks like I won't have to leave my gun in the car. Private property owners may try to prohibit firearms by posting a sign to that effect. The important difference is that a liquor permit facility owner privately posting a sign is only creating a trespass violation (lol). A few no-gun signs will likely go up in the next month and, just as they did in April of 2004 when Ohio adopted a concealed carry license, these signs will start to come down as we either choose to take our business elwhere or the owners come to their senses that a sign creates no actual gun-free zone.

will be mad about keeping designated drivers out, leading to more drunk drivers. I have not drank alcohol in a bar since the NCO club was in walking distance.

driving taxis. It's all about making that buck. The last thing a bar owner wants is a chair taken up by some one that is nursing a coke all night long.

... one guy nursing a Coke all night long so the 2-3 people with him can drink until they're stupid works out much better for the bar than 4 people each limiting themselves to 1 drink per hour so they're still ok to drive at the end of the night.
Bars figured this out long ago, which is why I usually got free cokes and bar snacks when I went. (I was always the DD).

12. I go to bars all the time without drinking (alcohol). |
|
None of them ever had a problem with it. 'Course I go through a lot of water, juice and soda, and tip well.

9. They need some kind of general forgiveness |

I know somebody in his 60s. He got into some trouble as a dumb kid in his 20s, and has led a clean life since.
He is still barred from owning a gun.

11. It should be automatic. |

Say after five years with a clean record. Same for voting rights for felons, say after two years clean.
