Obama's DOJ strikes again. No guns for medicinal cannabis users.

This is being discussed in a different thread referenced below. Cannabis is not addictive, this makes no sense. It makes about as much sense as telling anyone that drinks alcohol that they can't own a gun.

Anyway, I'm just posting this here FYI. This ruling makes absolutely no sense to me and is yet one more restriction on gun ownership IMO.

"The ban on gun use by medical-marijuana patients nationwide came in a U.S. Department of Justice letter sent Sept. 21 to state and county prosecutors across the country. The directive says: "Any person who uses or is addicted to marijuana, regardless of whether his or her State has passed legislation authorizing marijuana use for medicinal purposes ... is prohibited by Federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition."

allowing you to go in a place like Applebees that serves alcohol in many states. Drinking while armed is still a felony in those states. Want to see drunks with guns? Go to a cop bar in New York.

Problem with the first one, pot is still illegal on the federal level.

6. In most states, it is. A few it's not.

I think either Washington or Oregon and one or two others have no laws on carrying while intoxicated. Most states, however, either ban drinking while carrying at all, or more commonly use the same definition of intoxication that's used for driving a car.

But carrying in public while being legally "under the influence" is grounds to revoke your Concealed Pistol License and confiscate the firearm(s) involved, so it's certainly not legal.

on the latest stupid policy by AG Holder.

U.S. SENATE --(Ammoland.com)- Saying it violates gun rights, invades privacy and creates needless red tape, U.S. Senator Jon Tester is slamming a new Justice Department policy that prohibits licensed medical marijuana card-holders from purchasing firearms and ammunition and requires gun dealers to obtain private medical information from customers before selling firearms or ammunition.

Tester is telling Attorney General Eric Holder and the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to back off the new policy

It's bad enough that marijuana is singled out categorically in Form 4473, but to now add this last piece of crap is thundering bureaucracy at its worst.

Gun-control advocates, who preach how 2A defenders are paranoid about gun restrictions, take note.
