Settler leaders have not yet prepared a contingency plan for resistance in the event of an evacuation, but they have compiled a list of thousands of supporters who live within the Green Line for mobilization in time of emergency. The leaders hope to avoid violence, but admit that surprises are possible from fringe elements
Twenty years ago, Elyakim Haetzni of Kiryat Arba
published a short pamphlet in the wake of the
Yamit evacuation. Haetzni mainly focused on the
spiritual shock of the evacuation in his pamphlet,
entitled "The Shock of Withdrawal in the Land of
Israel." But toward the end of the pamphlet he
also described the type of civil revolt he would
like to see if and when a Jewish government
decides to evacuate parts of Judea and Samaria.
Haetzni drew support from an article written in
1936 by Professor Joseph Klausner, entitled "The
First Pogrom and the Image in the Temple."
