McCartney at benefit concert "Let it be Kerry!" |
|
Apparently, McCartney introduced Let It Be with this quip when he appeared at the Bridge Benefit concert with Neil Young. All you cynical Macca-haters, go ahead and vent your spleen, but he's still on the right track--and with Kerry, it's Coming Up! (I'm still hoping for a version ofGive Iraq Back to the Iraqis.)

5. I think skjpm meant... |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 04:05 PM by magnolia
...whenever somebody mentions a celebrity supporting a candidate, someone invariably says "who cares". I personally think celebrities are citizens too and have just as much right to express their views as we do.
Paul was my favorite Beatle back in the day so I'm thrilled but not surprised that he is supporting our man!!!!
On edit...oops...I guess skjpm meant something else.

Constant reminders to go vote also. McCartney said, "Let it be" a few times and then, "Let it be, Kerry!" The crowd erupted in cheers.

I don't hate MacCartney; acknowledge him as a great artist whose work will live forever.
However, I have offered the opinion that his recent work has not been good, and have gone so far as to suggest that Paul is past it artistically.
"Freedom", for example, is pretty awful.
Some of us big John fans also feel uncomfortable with the way he insisted that their songwriting legacy be divided up and thought he was being a bit too egotistical. We felt as unhappy of the dividing of the Lennon-McCartney legacy as Lincoln did about Southern secession.
Please note that these are merely opinions. I still love Paul, always will.
I have heard him interviewed in the past year -- most notably on Fresh Air, and he is fascinating to listen to -- still has lots of important things to say, and I thank Sir Paul for taking a stand for sanity in this very difficult time, and I repent most sincerely for my sins of speaking critically of him.

Even I, as a huge fan, can't stand Freedom. But try Calico Skies, a wonderful anthem to love and peace which he played on his latest tour.

Considering he saw the towers fall, I would not have been surprised if he had come out as a Bush supporter. I appreciated the way he tried to support us post-9/11, but I'm also glad he has the clear head to see who is really best for America.
The last thing I liked by him was the last album before Linda died.

Wanting to change the credits from Lennon-McCartney to McCartney- Lennon? Why?
Some claim he is "the guy who killed the Beatles"
He refused to go to John’s funeral & sold the Beatles portfolio to Michael Jackson
And the Sir thing. I hate Mick for that too.

7. McCartney also confronted Putin about landmines |
|
When touring in Russia, McCartney and Heather urged Putin to end the use of landmines. I thought that was kinda gutsy. The people who hate Paul think he's too poppy or whatever. I think he's optimistic, and I frequently compare him to Edwards, with Kerry as the more pensive John.

I wish I'd been around when the Beatles were together to have seen them play together. Miss John and George so much.

I had noticed McCartney's name on several lists for "celebrity republicans" which always filled me with dismay because I am a HUGE McCartney fan. Plus it doesn't really fit with his message over the years. I know people get a little loose with these lists, but I also recall reading McCartney's supposed "public support" for the president as an additional reason to hate him.
I am filled with relief because that was a huge blow to my view on an otherwise favorite musician/role model of all time. Sometimes these celebrity endorsements really do affect people's opinions. As silly as they are, I know there are fans like me who maybe hadn't thought too much about it until they heard that. When they're that big, I'll take 'em loud and proud!
The Beatles for Kerry/Edwards 2004!
Now THAT's got nice ring to it.
