Media? Corruption? Image? Stolen Elections? |
|
So... How exactly are the Dem's planning to combat these obstacles? How are we to take back or overcome a corporate media? How are we to expose and root out the multi-leveled corruption throughout our goverment, goverment agencies, and even within our own party? How do we combat the image the Republicans have painted about the Dem party? How do we ensure that future elections are handled fairly so as the true voice of the nation can actually be heard? How do we restore the faith of the people in the government that has spewed forth nothing but lies, hate, and riteous indignation? and biggest of all...
How do we accomplish all of the above and more WHILE the Republicans have firm control over evel level of our government?
What I'm hoping in this thread is that maybe, some ideas may be brainstormed, and some thought out plan of action can be made to combat the very large mountain we are trying to climb.
While I love that DU has become very popular and is a valuable source of information, facts, and inspired debate about todays issues. But who can deny that in fact... posting here... we are but "preaching to the chior." The information found here holds many truths diluded or ignored by the media. It need to make it to the eyes and minds of those who still rely on mass media for thier "truths".
I look forward to hearing some good ideas on where to go from here. There's alot of work that needs to be done or this country may be too far out of our reach forever!

and use it for discussions in the middle and high school they attend.
i know it isn't much but it helps especially since we live in a very red part of upstate NY and many of their teachers are repubs...they bring in many thought provoking articles, just monday they both copied "The Warnings of History" by Thom Hartman to discuss in History class :7

that corporate media is right now going through a credibility crisis, brought on by the Novak/Plame case and Gannon/Guckert, as well as the blogs exposing media's mistakes, bias, spin, payola, and outright lies. As for the "octopus" of corruption... there is not a whole lot we can do about that until we get back some power in Congress and on the House and Senate Judicial and Ethics committees.
For a long time, most of us believed we were doomed without corporate media... things are changing now, but it's not going to happen overnight, so don't lose hope. Keep hammering away on things, the cracks will open up.
As for the elections... click on the banner below. :)

Can we rely on the media to report on the faults and bias on the media? Even if it was exposed on some level, it might be hard to get them to report on thier own lack of integrity dontcha thing?

9. Isn't it odd, though... |

That we can be both "out of touch with reality" and part of the "reality-based community"? :)

We have 2 major newspapers. One is considered more liberal, one is considered more conservative. Neither hide thier "biased" positions because they know there is a venue that will bring opposing points to thier columns easily accessible to the mainstream public. Not alot of communities have that sort of balance in thier local papers. Most papers simply reflect the issues and voting trends of the people in that area. Don't expect to see a liberal column written in a predominantly conservative city or state. Just doesn't happen.

Most papers I read usually have a point/counterpoint style in the LTE columns. They usually try to publish at least 2 letters with opposing views.
