1. That is a college town - like Iowa City. I think they are a separate |
|
category - definitely much more liberal then non-college towns.
I went to undergrad in Iowa City and Law School in Lawrence. Iowa City was much more liberal.

A gem in the Intermountain Northwest. Just so damn cold in the winter. And smoggy.

7. I notice that Houston, TX is both friendly and unfriendly on that list |
|
and it is soooo true.
I used to live in 3rd Ward and now live in the Heights (both friendly toward liberal types)...but I work in the Galleria, which is often unfriendly (especially with a Kerry/Edwards sticker slapped on my bumper)...

32. Found a lot of untruths about my own city there |
|
Don't know if I'd believe it.
Yes - Knoxville was red for years, but, the city proper, has voted blue in the past two statewide elections. The county continues to make the whole area "red" by voting for the weirdos, but I have to say that Knoxville has come a long way since 2000.
It, for example, NEVER passed a law that said gays were unwelcome.
Oh - and the reason our sales tax is so high is because the state has no income tax.
And that's just to name two.
Seriously, if the first two statements regarding my city were inaccurate, I'm not sure I'd trust the rest of this list.

just 5 miles away from the County Seat (Ravenna), but might as well be on a different planet. Closest "big" town is Akron which is 15 miles away. Credit the University for the diversity, which draws an international student and professorial population. We love it, with its parks, neat little restaurants, and natural food stores living side-by-side with college bars and tattoo parlors. And, contrary to its history, the students and the townies get along just fine. The Kerry/Edwards HQ, in the heart of downtown, was constantly buzzing and packed with progressives of all ages.

Smaller than Houston or the Metroplex, sure. But it's a small CITY--& growing fast.

A little island. We have some great, active Dems here. The town always has Dem signs outnumbering repug signs 10-1. We're only about 280 people, but it's cool here. http://elandhappenings.com/
