July 4, 2005 Independence Day: How will you celebrate? Ironic suggestion |
|
how about we actually mark our calendars for 7/4/05 as the day we take back our rights and destiny and begin the process of recovering our lost democracy? National strikes, civil disobedience, march on Washington and each state capitol. People protesting ala Kiev until we get impeachment proceedings and paper ballots and hand counts.
Lets choose a course of action we can all rally around. If each progressive organization participated we can create the change this country so dearly needs.

4. July 4th - the day my sister passed away |
|
And one week later, my brother was killed. We have a camping getaway during that time, to get back to nature, escape and celebrate life and doing the things that both my late sis and bro loved to do. There is a quiet hidden little lake that my brothers ashes were spread - and this is where we go.

5. How sad and tragic that period and loss must have been for you. |
|
the way you respect their memory is touching. I hope your trip to the lake is peaceful and cleansing.

It is cleansing....and actually feels pretty good to get away from civilization - TV - news for a few days. A person does not realize just how much stress and anxiety your President gives us all...until we cut all media contact for a while.

7. I haven't celebrated since the first coup. |
|
Not trying to be dramatic or anything. I just find nothing to celebrate about July 4th any more. Before Bush came along, we liked to watch the movie "1776" and have a cookout and go see the fireworks. It used to feel much better to live in this country (although it never felt 100% great). Now on July 4th I feel nothing but sadness for what could have been, shame for what is.

10. How do we get this idea to Code Pink, ACT, MoveOn, etc? |
|
We'll need their buy-in to make this happen on any sort of national scale.

11. One year I did go to a French film. |
|
Then I watched the fireworks from the street north of the theater.
I'm not sure about this year. Maybe I could take a friend out for French wine.
