from Iraq. Period! Everything else is a crap shoot with me. If you have the heart for this war, then you don't have a heart and you certainly don't have a "head."

1. Pat Buchanan is the candidate for you! |
|
He has opposed the Iraq war since day one. He is one of the paleocons who believes in a very modest foreign policy.
Personally, being a liberal, the phrase "Presdient Buchanan" causes in me much the same reaction as "deep root canal without anesthesia."

2. I want to fit into a size 8 jeans again. |
|
Ain't gonna happen.
Well, with vanity sizing, I might actually have a chance of getting into those jeans.

I wear an 8, but, see, I used to be a 5 before the kidlet. :)
But, yes, I agree with your analogy. We cannot pull lock, stock and barrel out of Georgie's Folly because it would leave that country even more rudderless (if you can believe it) than it is right now. It would turn into another Afghanistan, harboring would-be thugs who HATE us (and we know how powerful hate is).
We never should have gone in, to begin with - I doubt ANYONE on this board would say otherwise - but, now that we're there...Geesch... we have to have an exit strategy that provides us with the best "save face" possible. Sad, isn't it? However, we can't leave those people in that mess and we can't open ourselves up to another extremist regime.
I doubt Bushie-Tushie will do any of this, of course, because he's there for oil and imperialism - we're not building 14 military bases for Shi'ite.

possible. THAT is what worries me. Part of me believes in just getting out, but another part really doesn't believe that if we just get out that Iraq is going to be better off.
I will readily admit that this problem is too complex for me. I do not have a deep enough understanding of the culture and history of the area or of the conflicting interests represented by the Sunnis, the Shia, the Kurds and the surrounding countries.
Too bad Bush and Co. couldn't admit all that three and a half years ago.

If the faulty machines aren't changed we can run any platform, with any candidate and have as much chance of success as Gore & Kerry had last time.
We will never win another election that matters...Thats why.

9. The problem is that the typical Anti War Candidate is ........ |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 08:57 AM by Cappadonna
..........a political incompetent, self absorbed demagouge or completely out of the mainstream. Kucinich, Sharpton and Nader can scream as loud as they want against the war-- nobody was going to vote for them anyway. No need to take strident stands when the only people who will support are fringe freaks anyway.
Elected politicians, particularly incumbents in this country, aren't going to gamble on a "principled stand" when it could cost them their careers. Jesse Jackson, Nader, James Dobson and Pat Buchanan can talk as much smack as they want, just Bennett could talk about aborting all black babies. They don't have to worry about the voting booth in November. They're ideologues and activists -- who really cares what they say. (from a political stand point).
WE have to build our own leaders from scratch. If you want the Dems to actually fight, put the fear of God in them. Here's an idea -- in 2006, campaign against any leader who does not categorically oppose the war in Iraq. If its a Dem, primary his punk ass. If he's a Repug, find a Wellstone Dem. If all else fails, get in touch with you're local Green Party. I'm going to my local Deaniac meeting propose that we primary Hillary Clinton b/c she such a damn hawk. One of my closest friends is running against Joe Lieberman.
You want an anti-war candidate, run for office yourself.

10. Who? I thought Lieberman's opposition dropped out? |

Good idea though. Especially re. Hillary. Why there is no primary opposition to her from the left is a mystery to me.

12. Nope. The only guy running aganist Holy Joe is a Trucker from the GP |
|
I know the guy personally. If any DUers who are serious about taking about JoeL (or scaring him into growing a pair) check out Ralph Ferrucci. He's an anti-war, anti-poverty activists who just happened to run under the Guilty Party for the Mayoral election of New Haven, CT in 2003. Just search Google on the guy and you're bound to find him doing something.

|
let THERE kids enlist if that's what they want. we might as well just support Bush's "stay the course". In the end you get more dead troops no matter which way you do it if you don't just pull out..
