Huckabee trades jokes with Leno; Clinton appears on Letterman
BURBANK, California (AP) — On the eve of the Iowa caucuses, GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has traded jokes with Jay Leno and played bass guitar with the "Tonight Show" band. And Democrat Hillary Clinton made a cameo appearance with David Letterman as the "Late Show" host returned to work for the first time since writers went on strike two months go.
Huckabee told Leno it took his parents a year to pay for a $99 guitar they bought him for Christmas in 1966. He said it was a big sacrifice for them, and that he played it until his fingers nearly bled and his parents ears nearly bled. He joked that they then suggested he become a minister.
He was greeted by striking writers with signs reading "Huckabee is a scab" and, "Huckabee, what would Jesus do?"
Clinton opened Letterman's show with a taped greeting: "Dave has been off the air for eight long weeks because of the writers strike. Tonight, he's back." Then she quipped, "Oh, well, all good things come to an end."
