Poll question: Is it a character lapse for Clinton to keep suggesting that the delegates |
|
from Florida and Michigan be seated, or is it just politics?

1. Character lapse: It suggests that Hillary plays by the rules when |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 04:27 PM by JDPriestly
they serve her purposes, but not if they don't. It suggests that Hillary is not a team player, that she doesn't understand what it means to belong to an organization and abide by the rules of the organization. It suggests also on a political level that her loyalty to herself and her campaign is greater than her loyalty to the Democratic Party.
I think this is a serious character failing.
Imagine that you and your friends form a club. You make rules about how members will elect the leadership, and a small clique of members decides to violate the agreed upon rules. Do you think that the club could exist if it just said, Oh, well. Do what you want? I don't think so.
You can drop out and form a different club. You can work to change the rules for the next election. But you can't change the rules after everyone except you and your clique has abided by them. You just have to sit the election out. It is unfortunate, but that is the way it is.

That's the same reason Obama isn't saying much about it even though he will likely seat those delegates should he become the nominee.

4. I doubt the citizens of those two states would consider it a character lapse. |

22. Then the citizens of those states should vote out the DLC hacks |
|
who illegally moved up the primaries.

6. Why wasn't Clinton fighting for those delegates to be counted from day one? |
|
Why did she sign 'The Pledge'? Why didn't she campaign..(well, you know what I mean)in those states?
Between her new, enlightened attitude toward the two states (and their super delegates now supporting her) and her self-funding of her campaign to the tune of $15 million dollars one might think the Clinton campaign is in a little bit of trouble....

8. I think the point is that neither candidate argued on their behalf |
|
Until it was clear who the winner was, and then Hillary wants them seated. Doesn't sound like standing up for the little guy. Would have Obama said the same thing? We'll never know.

they should have worked this out. It's the voters who end up paying, and now the Dem party is going to pay with a potential clusterf*ck.

16. especially florida. i mean can we really afford to make the dem voters in florida feel neglected |
|
and not part of the process after 2001 and 2004?
its seem like a nationally bad strategy, no matter who wins

10. I don't mind Florida, but Michigan would be unfair because she was the only one on the ballot |
|
They can be seated once there is a clear winner, but not before. Can't change the rules midstream.

15. It's just politics that obviously won't work |
|
I mean imagine if today after Obama got more delegates they suddenly announced "oh we're now going to count Michigan and Florida", Obama supporters would be furious and see it as a deliberate attempt by the establishment to hand the nomination over to Hillary so the outsider won't get it.

17. It's politics. If necessary, she'll stop "suggesting" |
|
and start working through the courts. It was good enough for Bush in 04, it's good enough for Clinton in 08.
If she has to "steal" the nomination, and she can, she will.
But it's just a tactic. If Obama was the only name on the MI ballot, and he won the most delegates in FL, you can bet he'd try to seat them, too.

25. Yes, but, All the "Uncommitted" are belong to Obama!!! |
|
I would not have agreed with that, until Edwards dropped out. Now, BO can have my "uncommitted" vote that was initially cast for JE.
I still hope they don't seat the MI delegates until after a prez candidate is nominated, just because of the dirth of names on the ballot. It wasn't a "real" primary.
