Help me understand: What is a "suspended" campaign |
|
John Edwards "suspended" his campaign.
Dennis Kucinich "ended" his campaign.
Fred Thompson "dropped out" of the race.
Romney "suspended" his campaign.
What is "suspended"? A weak "drop"? Maintaining hope of re-activating the campaign?
They're all "out" for 2008, right?

2. Financial considerations |
|
+ Bloomberg might get in.
Which could sent it to the convention.
So a suspended campaign is still in it if there's a floor fight and they need a consensus alternative.

7. Bloomberg could do anything |
|
except win.
I'm not even sure which party he'd piss of most.
He's not a Nader, or a Perot.

8. Whatever's left in the coffer |
|
Romney could call it a "loan" and pay himself back. Nobody would accuse him of theft, it was mostly his money anyway.
Or he could give it to McCain in hopes of a cushy ambassador posting.

10. Well, that's sort of what I figured |
|
except Romney and Edwards aren't using the words "lost cause".
To me, the word is "toast". Speaking of which, nice beer avatar. :hi:

11. So there's still an "Edwards for Prez" committee |

sitting around somewhere?
There's a dismal job.

For "suspended" campaigns:
In the GOP, the candidate loses his delegates, and it is up to the state party as to where they end up.
In the Democratic Party, the candidate remains on the ballot of the remaining primary states, and retains the delegates s/he has amassed so far.
I read this today on CNN, IIRC.

12. So Edwards can still gather more delegates? |
|
And possibly make the convention interesting?
That's got possibilities ...

15. If he's on the ballot and gets over 15% in a CD |
|
then he can still get delegates. However, since he's not campaigning right now, it's doubtful he'll get any more than what he has now.
