I first came to america during the civil rights movement of the 1960s |
|
I was not very political although all my family supported the Labor government in England , I knew or cared little about politics in my new country.
Coming to America, I was a somewhat disturbed, though certainly not enough to realize that there seemed to be a two system society, and white people owned and controlled both. I argued, half heartedly with my southern in-laws that it was not fair to judge peoples accomplishment by the opportunities that were denied them by an unequal system.
What bothers me most, however, that I missed did not pay attention to the movement taking place all around me, I did not listen to the great speeches given by civil rights leaders of our times. Martin Luther King, to name the most famous. Unfortunately I was too unpolitical to pay attention. Looking back, I feel that history was made while I ignored it.
I wish not to make that mistake a second time. I believe that Obama is a truly outstanding leader and his audience is not just a small minority of the voters who want change. The people supporting him are people from all classes and varieties of the political spectrum. They are listening him tell them it is NOW their turn
I think that this is another part of history in the making and this time I want to pay attention

1. I think the 60's turned me on even if I had always voted. |

I lived in the South when they shut my kids schools down and turned over school buses. It was a real scary time but you could see the country moving from that all white mans world I was born into in the 30's. Great Country! I just love it.

2. Yup bless you for your courage |

we are in desperate need of a paradigm shift, not a backwash.
The movement is reincarnating now.
So you haven't missed it all.
