JOHN EDWARDS!!!
I thought I'd get everyone away from the 30983943 threads about the photo story to start an appreciation thread for Senator John Edwards!!

WE MISS YOU JOHN!!

Here's some photos:

And one I made:

I miss John Edwards. He simply put was the best candidate that ran in this campaign cycle, and I'm glad to see he hasn't went away quietly and will continue to fight for the causes he said in the campaign were the causes of his life.

:) Just trying to lighten the board up today!

He's proving now that he really was the best candidate. I wonder if any of the other "losers" will do anything of value for this country. Or will they immediately start planning for the next campaign.

GO JOHN!!!

36. Joe Biden just went on one the very toughest diplomatic missions I have heard of in some time
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 02:43 PM by karynnj
With Senators Kerry and Hagel, he went to some of the countries likely to be at the root of current and future problems. In Afghanistan, in addition to spending a few hours on an Afghan mountaintop after an emergency helicopter mission when they were checking out forward bases in Northern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border (ie where OBL may be) they met with Karzi. They oversaw the Pakistani elections where there was violence and the threat of violence (38 people were killed) and they met with Musharrif after it was known that his party was badly defeated. They were in Turkey where there were many issues - while Turkey attacked Kurdish rebels in Iraq. India, was in better shape - there they were discussing provisions of a nuclear deal.

That's what Joe Biden was doing with his week off from the Senate. This was more substantial, required more preparation, work and personal discomfort and effort - even as planned. As it was, they could have died in those mountains - I think this was "something of value for this country". As to planning the next campaign - I assume all the others are looking to get a Democratic President in 2008. (For Biden, Gravel, and Dodd - I doubt they ever run again - so why the insult? How would you react if someone pointed to this Edwards action as the start of a 2012 campaign?)

Biden has always been a cut above, and so has Dodd.
They were doing a service by even running. Along with Edwards, they were pushing policy instead of catch phrases. I was really referring to the two still in the race, but I should have been more precise.

65. The two still in the race, are by definition not yet "losers"
What they are doing is running, hoping to win and to change the course.

Every candidate who was running had a platform and all had policies that the team created. HRC, who I don't support was far more of a policy wonk, than Edwards - who was apolitical through most of his life. (I still don't believe he can't remember if he cast his first vote for McGovern or Nixon. That was my first vote too and I remember clear as day canvassing and voting for McGovern.)

But here's to Edwards! I voted for him shortly after he dropped out, because at that point I hadn't decided between Obama and Clinton.

I was wrong to say it that way because it wasn't clear at all.
I would have edited it but I never feel that's fair to the person who has already responded. I do know that some of our candidates have moved on to very worthwhile projects. I should have said I hope the two remaining will acquit themselves as well as Edwards - or maybe I shouldn't have posted at all as it was an unnecessary comment. I hate to bring an argument into a feel good thread.

Anyway, have a good night. :)

It seems that they ALL are fighting for something bigger than their next campaign. As for Edwards, it remains to be seen.

69. She didn't slam Edwards - she said "it remains to be seen"
and it does. This can be a major movement where he stays actively and substantively involved - or it can be nothing - I've seen similar things go both ways.

In addition, I will wait to see what this organization does. The best way to get change is to elect a Democrat. The fact is the President has huge power over war or peace. McCain will not allow the troops to leave - and he - genial though he appears - was for regime change in at least 5 countries in 2000. I doubt that has changed.

I thought Edwards attacks on Congress were political and counterproductive. If this organization attempts to attack the Democratic nominee as not sufficiently anti-war and drives voters away or to third party candidates, they will be get the Ralph Nader 2008 award. I hope Edwards is there to prevent that and put this group behind the Democrat.

Mass has always had fair well reasoned posts.

70. Edwards is absolutely committed to electing a Democrat.
How many times does he have to say that. If he was worried about the candidates not being anti-war enough, he wouldn't have dropped out and he wouldn't say he's committed to electing a Democrat in 2008.

I take John Edwards at his word.

194. I don't know.
Do you consider opposing the war in congress, working to impeach bush and cheney, and fighting to be a voice for PEOPLE in congress worthy?

Of course, DK has drawn the ire of corporate dems, and is under attack from big outside money in his own re-election campaign, so he's probably focused on dealing with that right now.

I think his record in Congress, whether he's campaigning or not, will hold up under scrutiny for anyone looking to see if he does "anything of value for this country." He does so every day.

I'll say it again, I'm going to end up as one of those old farts, spittle drooling down my chin, sitting in front of my computer and watching the Jeff/Jackson Dinner speech over and over, waving a fist at the sky and cursing the world for what might have been. He was the one, the one to move this country forward. I just see more of the same and some of it getting worse, regardless of who takes the WH in '09.

February 25, 2008 9:20 AM EST

***Teleconference Monday at 11 a.m.

Dial In: (866) 866-1333; Pass Code: IRAQ***

Former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth Edwards will join top anti-Iraq war leaders today to announce the launch of a new nationwide, multimillion dollar campaign aimed at shining a light on the cost of war in Iraq. The new Iraq/Recession Campaign will be launched with a teleconference today at 11am.

As economic concerns weigh heavily on the minds of Americans, opposition to President Bush's reckless war in Iraq continues to grow. The massive cost of the war in Iraq- hurtling toward one trillion dollars - has increased demand for a strategy to bring U.S. troops home. The Iraq/Recession Campaign will highlight the majority of Americans who want to see leadership on investing in critical priorities at home and establishing real security throughout the world.

WHAT: Press Conference Call to Launch Iraq Campaign 2008

WHO: John Edwards, former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate and Elizabeth Edwards

22. J & E Edwards To Join Anti Iraq War Groups to Launch Multimillion Dollar Iraq/Recession Campaign
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 01:52 PM by Lone_Star_Dem

57. I don't blame to voters but regret their not getting to see him for who he really is
He suffered a painful lack of press which in the end sucked his campaign in to the abyss.

In the end the losers are all of us. He would have been a great president.

63. The corprat media who were clearly afraid of his message is why the voters
weren't allowed access to him. You are correct there. And in the end, yes we all are losers. He would have been an excellent President for us ALL! Damn shame!

205. yea, John's message was resonating with alot of people
until the media (the corporate owned media) shut down the light on him. Oh did John scared them by saying he was after lobbyists and corporations, so again they railroaded him. I hope those corporations some day will get their just dues.

186. Ditto

It certainly is a shame, Lone_Star. It seems today's voters are hell bent on voting against their best interests - on both sides of the aisle. It was the last straw for me.

And isn't amazing how quickly the Edwards have regrouped and are already continuing on their mission to help Americans? I have so much respect for that family.

Pray if you are so inclined.

Haven't heard much about whats going on with Edwards till the Anti War post this morning. Hoping him and Elizabeth are doing well. Honestly if it were between Edwards and Obama i'd have a tougher time deciding at this point and may have been leaning slight Edwards...hopefully if Obama gets the nom he'll come back for VEEP, would make a great ticket. If Hillary gets the nom i'll just write Edwards in. :D

For the first time in my life I have been passionate about politics, have been focused on the issues and John and Elizabeth (who could ever forget her Ann Coulter smack down) have risen the bar and they spoke to me on every issue and with every statement.

I have gone through the stages of grief since he suspended the campaign. They say that you will always have one big regret in life. My regret is that he didn't get elected to the office of POTUS and we will never know the wonderful changes that he would have made for all of us.
By the way Greylyn the pic of your dog looks exactly like the one of my rescue baby Kasey. They could honestly be twins. I have another rescue baby named Morgan. Gotta love those goldens.

especially your comments about Goldens. I love my boy dearly and even at 12yrs of age, he is still my baby. :)

I have also been grieving the lost of John Edwards as my candidate choice and I was just reaching the acceptance stage when I learned that the head of the State Democratic Party here in NC was removing Edwards' name from the primary ballots. His explanation was stupid and contrived. So once again, John was taken from me and I won't even be able to vote from him in the May primaries. I can do a write in vote even though it won't count (that really ticks me off too) and I will probably do it just so I can say got my chance to vote for my pick.

:grr: This political season has had me tied in knots. What is worse is I have no candidate. I don't care for my current choices.

My whole family was devastated when John suspended his campaign. We all felt that he was the only one that really cares about the middle class and on down.

I supported John as much as I could. Neither one of the remaining two will ever get that kind of support from me. I just don't get the feeling that they give a damn about anyone who isn't in their cabal.

I'll vote Dem in November, but I won't spend a minute or a dime on Clinton or Obama. John Edwards was and still is the only true choice for me.

My brother was invited to photograph John at a private event in WA state, and he took this particular photo of John taking a call from Elizabeth. The hosts liked it so much that they asked for a framed print that they could give to John next time they saw him. So...my brother may in fact have one of his photos hanging in JE's house. Cool, eh?

Look at what we are doing to Clinton and Obama. The next 2 threads down in popularity are basically "Clinton sucks" and "Obama Sucks". Does anyone think that if John were still in the third thread down would not be "Edwards sucks, and I am never voting for him"?

This place has been taken over by insane clowns. I can only hope that they go somewhere else or get treatment once the elections are over. I miss the pre-primary DU.
