This country has got HUGE gender issues, any woman can tell you that!!!! I guess we'll always be the last one on the totem pole we're the 19th amendment afterall. I'm just sick of the fact that women always have to live up to higher standards everytime compared to men!

29. Sure... with some people it is.... just as Obama's race is an issue with some people... |
|
...
But the overriding reason why America is rejecting Hillary is people want a new face, and not another Bush or Clinton.
Especially young people.

I do realize that sexism is an issue. However, racism or classism or any of the myriad of isms are encountered by people every day, too.
I'm not minimizing your experiences, I'm just saying that others have different experiences and higher-priority issues. Sexism is not the universal "worst problem".

and I have no idea what you're talking about. Perhaps I've been more fortunate than you but I can honestly never think of an incident in my work where I felt I was discriminated against because I was a woman. And maybe that's because I never gave my male coworkers the opportunity. OH sure, I had a few hit on me over the years but big deal. From the day I entered the working world, I put my big girl pants on, and demanded respect from my co-workers and I've gotten it. I also never used my sex as an excuse for not being able to do something. I'm sorry for you and your circumstances but to me, this defense/excuse put forth by the Hillary supporters is so much noise, full of sound and fury and signifying nothing to borrow a phrase.

|
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 10:32 PM by sfam
Your post seems to be indicating that sexism has somehow gotten worse. Tell me, what other time period can you name were the most successful CEO (Ebay) is a woman, where a woman was seen as the inevitable presidential choice, where one of the most successful author of all time is now a Woman (JK Rowling), the most successful celebrity (Oprah), etc. Is the pay gap better now or 10 years ago?
I'm not saying things are perfect right now, but when exactly has sexism been better than today? IF the answer is "never" (it is), then why the HUGE outrage? Are you saying you don't see progress here or are you just pissed your candidate is going down in flames, in part because of sexist attacks?

At least women got to vote then. As far as I know there were no poll taxes or literacy tests for women voters in the 60s.
What I don't understand is why is America supposedly more sexist than the rest of the world? Plenty of other countries have had women in charge, are we really more sexist than all of them? Or is it just that we haven't had the right candidate yet? Or maybe there's some flaw in our electoral system that keeps things this way? I honestly don't know.
Women aren't restricted from voting and they are over 50% of the population so politics should be one area that is relatively free of entrenched patriarchal biases shouldn't it?
