Has anyone had negative house party experiences? |
|
I'm not the house party type, but even I might get on board. We have a few people we could invite, but it would be even better to make it open to the public, especially since there are no other parties going on in my area.
Problem is that I live in a pretty conservative area, and I have to admit that inviting a bunch of strangers into my house, some of whom might wish me ill, kinda scares me, particularly with my adorable 2 year old around.
I'm sure the strong pro-Bushies in town check this kinda thing out on the Kerry site. I don't want to live in fear, and that's not really gonna stop me, but I figured I'd ask if anyone out there had any bad experiences with a public house party. I have a HUGE wall and an LCD projector, so it might be kinda fun to watch the end of the convention on the big-"screen".
That said, I'm not even a friggin Democrat, and I don't really care about the convention/pep-rally, but I *DO* care about getting George Jr. out of the White House, almost more than anything.
Any thoughts?

The odds of anything bad happening are very slim. Plus, you'll get to meet more like minded folks in your area. You might be surprised how many there are.
By the by, I completly undersand you lack of interest in the convention.

2. If you're really concerned, |
|
have it outside and get a baby sitter for your 2 year old. I went to a house party and there's another one on the 18th. At one count there was over 120 people!! No problems at all, but it was in a side yard. Everyone that came brought something, chips, soda, stuff like that.
If you don't have a screen, you could rent one or just hang a white sheet on the side of the house!

Geesh, I don't know how we could deal with 120 people.
Actually, I guess my area isn't ultra-conservative, but it's an Air Force town in California, so the Republicans feel under siege for being in CA, and are in the majority in the town, so I think they don't like to see dissention in their little nook of the most liberal state in the Union.
Well, we'll see. If I can get 10 or so committed friends, I think we might try it.

4. Have Options On Kerry Site Whether to Make Address Public |
|
you can decide to show your address or not show your address on the website and then release it by email to people. It allows you to screen your guest list a little bit more. IT is not perfect, but it at least doesn't reveal your address to the world.

6. I've had 4 house parties |
|
starting with the first one for Clark and they have allbeen public. I am in an extremely repuke are and the fallout has been we now have bumper stickers saying "it's ok to be a Democrat in Douglas County" There are so many people that were glad that the Dems were finally able to show there faces. People who are anti Kerry or repukes that hate Kerry will not waste their time coming to make problems. They will just ignore it, but you will be surprised at who the Dems are in your neighborhood. Go For it.
