I live in Southern Indiana where many of my fellow Hoosiers, myself in included have southern roots based in Kentucky and Tennessee, etc. The “Redneck, Low information voters, etc” who voted for McCain or backed McCain look positively shell shocked.
I have heard many derogatory comments and other things in the past few days especially since the election and I have been attempted to say something but I have came to a conclusion there is no need. I feel no need to defend Obama, oh sure I have tried to explain to some of them that Obama is not some gun grabbing ant-christ, etc, etc.
In fact I have told many of them in a very polite way that Obama is in fact very moderate but to no avail, they still think he is going to put all white people in some kind of camp.
I do not know whether to pity them or just dismiss them. I do know that Obama will surprise them in a way they least expect. They will be surprised that the world has not come to an end and Obama is not what they think he is despite what the emails say.
Some of my fellow Hoosiers look as if their older brother had just told them that Santa Clause was not real for the first time and they are just having a hard time dealing with it
I think it really just comes down to ignorance; many of these people I am talking about have hardly ever traveled outside of the state except on a vacation.
I served in the US Navy and traveled to many parts of the globe and had to rely on men of different colors and creeds and there are good and bad people in all races. During my time in the Navy there where some “white” guys whom I would not trust to turn on a light for me much less put my life in their hands and on the flip side I came across some very smart and dedicated men of African, Asian or Arab decent whom I would have complete peace in placing my life in their hands.
It all comes down to the person in the end.
