I got to admit, John McCain was pretty funny last weekend on SNL. |
|
I was afraid to watch last weekend (don't ask--it was a tense coupla days) but now that I've seen the two spots he did on Hulu, I remember now what an attractive candidate he made in 2000.
Some audience members were booing him, but he won everyone over (including me) with a lot of self-deprecating wit and warmth toward his opponent that seemed completely absent from the campaign trail.
Obviously, John McCain fully deserved to lose. And no, I'm not letting him off the hook--I will never respect him for the scurrilous, mud-slinging, mob-riling debacle his campaign turned into.
But I get the feeling that the guy honestly sold his soul to his Neo-Con handlers, who told him that the only way he could win was to run like Bush 8 years ago. By the time he realized what a bad idea that was, it was already apparent he was going to lose--so he just stuck with nonsense like "Joe the Plumber" to appease the base, in order to lessen the anger he must have known was coming from his own party. I also get the feeling that he HATED Sarah Palin by the end, HATED having to defend her, and was perfectly happy to stand next to Tina Fey as she lampooned his running mate. What did he have to lose at that point?
And come on, "Sad Grandpa?" That's hilarious.

1. I agree - he was very funny! |
|
just like he was funy at that thing that both he and Obama attended (the white tie event - I forgot the name). He could make repeated appearances on these shows and do well. Thank God, though, that he won't be making an appearance at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

3. I think you're referring to the Al Smith dinner in NY |
|
and yes, he was very funny in that one as well. I'm glad that McLame didn't campaign, or it could have been a lot closer.
