Do the Pat Robertson's of the world acknowledge Obama's victory was God's will? |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 12:28 PM by RiverStone
In your travels, have you heard any fundie wacko attribute President Elect Obama's win to divine intervention?
As a disclaimer, I don't practice any organized religion --- though find it curious (if not silly) that some on the religious right believe God selectively makes political points here and there. Katrina = punishment for America being Pro Choice (said Pat).
So, do religious Conservatives acknowledge God's will was done on election day?

1. They probably feel smited for doing something bad. With religion, you can rationalize anything. |
|

Now they think they have to be even more right wing to get back in God's graces.

3. Noo - I'll bet they start with the Great Deciever temping the unfaithful with |
|
gay marriage and interspecies dating.
Later, when they own everything, like in the 14th century they'll say it's gods will and shit.

As some of them have publicly noted lately, they honestly believe that he's the antichrist.
Satan is winning, folks.
What nutjobs these people are....

5. How can anything not be if God is omnipotent? |
|
By definition, EVERYTHING that happens is the will of a being which knows all and can do all. IF God exists as described in mainstream Xian theology, let alone fundie ravings, he wishes us to have tooth decay, cancer, arthritis, earthquakes, tsunamis, and the Republican party.
Thanks Yahweh! ;)

6. I think God is involved in every election. |
|
God gave us Bush to punish us and he gave us Obama since we saw the error in our ways. God also gave us Sara Palin to check out our stupidity. This is my take if we want to inject religion into politics.

7. They may say it was God's will |
|
But then they qualify it with something like: "And God, for some reason, wants our suffering to continue for the next 4 years. I don't know why, but we have to trust him cause he knows whats best for us and he'll eventually bring us out of this trouble (by electing a Republican)."
* I was raised Baptist, I know these things.

I suppose that sequel would have further biblical explanation?

14. No, they don't see him as the anti christ... |
|
they see him as the one who has come to prepare the way for the antichrist. They are praying night and day to try to be prepared. Really!!! As nutty as it sounds.

10. Fundamentalists ignore free will.... |
|
which God has given us, just as they ignore Christ's accepting, tolerant, peace-making nature.
God doesn't decide our elections. We do.

Therefore, God is a Democrat. Probably a DLC-er, though.

13. Sure. In the sense that the appearance of all the apocalyptic monsters in Revelation... |
|
...are presumably "God's Will."
Dincha know God's constantly making EVERYTHING happen for some reason or another? Fall of the sparrow, yanno.
Biblical literalists are like the vermiform appendix. Useless, and harmless... until they get inflamed and threaten potentially-fatal peritonitis in the body politic.
(This is not to be construed in any way that I am advocating unconstitutional methods of "surgery" to deal with them. There are plenty of constitutional ways to handle it, starting with restoring the effectiveness of our public education system...)

15. With these types it's only God's will if it's their will. |
|
If they actually cared about what Jesus would do or what God's will was they wouldn't behave in such a horrible manner that goes against what Jesus taught in the Gospels.. like the Beatitudes.

16. Pat Robertson has treated Obama fairly well by RW standards |
|
A lot, a LOT, of his audience is African-American. Much more so than many other religious broadcasters.
In a lot of American cities, the only Protestants in sight are African-American. The "right-wing white Republican Christian wacko wingnut" stereotype is almost entirely suburban or even rural.
