Tonight's Repub Victories are as HUGE as in 2001 when Mark Warner(D-VA) & Jim McGreevey(D-NJ) won |
|
the governorships in those same two states.
That was really earth-shattering, wasn't it?

2. It was after 9/11 so Bush's approval ratings were like 80% or so. See how |
|
important the President is in determining who wins these off-year elections. Absolutely critical. Just ignore the exit polls saying just the opposite.

4. Please do. I think we should use it all over the place when the Republicans and the media try to act |
|
like this is a big deal.
You can even point out how popular Bush was at that time since 9/11 had just happened less then 2 months before - no coattails with an 80% approval rating - how could that be?
Republicans (fear & war mongers) even picked up seats in the next year's Congressional elections. Just maybe those State Governor's races really say nothing about what's going to happen in the next Congressional elections and Presidential election.

8. Virginia's been swinging back and forth for forty years; so has New Jersey |
|
1970 - 1982 three Republican terms 1982 - 1994 three Democratic terms 1994 - 2002 two Republican terms 2002 - 2010 two Democratic terms
1970 - 1974 one Republican term 1974 – 1982 two Democratic terms 1982 - 1990 two Republican terms 1990 - 1994 one Democratic term 1994 – 2002 two Republican terms 2002 – 2010 two Democratic terms
The switch of both NJ and VA governorships to the Democratic column at the end of 2001 didn't make much difference to Bush in 2002 or 2004
