All right all you War Eagles |
|
It is confirmed: The Dark Lord, Dick Cheney, will come out of hiding and speak at your graduation this year. I have many friends that are truly pissed about this (and the fact that I've been teasing them unmercifully for a day now). One of my dear friends got mad and called the school. This is what she has to report from that call:
"They should call John Hachtel at 334-844-9999. I also called the University and both executives I spoke with said they were card carrying ACLU members and they agreed with me completely. They said their hands were tied though. Auburn did not invite Cheney - Cheney invited himself and wouldn't take no for an answer. They were "strongly advised to reconsider" when they said "no thank you"."
Invited himself???? How rude.... I guess the Solid South isn't as solid as they'd like us to believe if they have to trot Cheney out.
So all you War Eagles out there, get on the phones....... Let them know how happy you are that your beloved school is being tainted in such a manner.

spoke to Mr. Hatchel..he told me also about being a card carrying member of the ACLU. Said Gov. Riley's office was the instigator in this. Cheney was going to be in Auburn anyway, so the Gov. arranged this. Said they have placed some restrictions...Cheney's appearance cannot disrupt the traditional procession of graduates walking across the stage to receive their diplomas; Cheney is limited to 10 minutes; and he can only speak on the value of higher education - no politics, no Bush agenda. He also said some of the faculty is already arranging a protest! War Damn Eagle anyway!

5. So, if a parent were to |
|
wear a DU t-shirt, would she/he be thrown out of commencement? Wouldn't that be the ultimate indignation....like Cheney's 'secret service' thugs had any investment in the importance of the day. But they certainly feel free to stifle the appearance of dissent at every other venue.

...that I don't become further embarassed that I was ever enrolled at that school.
And stop making it sound as if Cheney is some carpetbagger. Auburn has a long and deep tradition as a conservative bulwark. Anyone who has ever been to school there can tell you how resoundingly conservative it is. We're talking about a place where, last year, they were playing clips of Dubya saying "War Eagle" (from his recent visit) on a monstrous video screen to get the football crowds jacked up. It worked, too.

If Kerry had won, or if Clinton had said that in Auburn... you never would have heard them on the jumbotron.
May the Fuhrer address us! :eyes:
