We agree with President Bush that this is not the time to withdraw American forces from Iraq. To do so now, leaving Iraqis to deal with the probabilities of a civil war and a bloodbath that would make the current insurgency seem like a picnic, would be a tragic abandonment of what we initiated, for better or worse, in Iraq.
That said, the president’s use of that argument as an excuse not to meet with a grieving mother camped outside his Texas ranch, where he is vacationing, is a case of obstinacy bordering on stupidity.

by continuing to turn his back on Mrs. Sheehan, Bush turns his back on a country that is growing increasingly doubtful and wary about our future in Iraq.
