The typical residential customer of Alabama Power Co. will pay an extra $103 for electricity next year, an increase of 10.6 percent, under rate and fee increases approved today by the Alabama Public Service Commission.
Alabama Power said a residential customer now pays $81.08 for 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity, which the company says is a typical monthly usage. About half its residential customers use more and about half use less.
That monthly bill will climb to $89.68 under the rate and fee increases that will affect consumers starting next month.
The annual cost of power for a typical residential customer will rise from $973 to $1,076.
