Bring rich inBattles continue in Fallujah and elsewhere in Iraq in spite of one general's statement that the city was secure and our commander in chief's assurances of "mission accomplished." The war costs billions and no end in sight. What are we to do?
We should use a few facts and implement a new tactic. First, the most strident war proponents are people with incredible wealth and a desire to collect unusual objects. Second, Iraq abounds in insurgent targets. Third, international law as interpreted by President Bush protects U.S. troops from war crimes so no closed-season, nor bag limit would apply. Those facts suggest the following program.
Commission people into the military who would like to add an insurgent to their trophy wall. Interested people would pay say $10 million per week for the experience. They would be allowed to hunt insurgents at their own expense and take pictures as well as minor evidence of their success such as an ear, finger, etc.
The major difference between a private doing that job today in Iraq is that he/she is paid a few hundred dollars a week for an indeterminate tour of duty and the wealthy adventurer would be paying a few million dollars with the option of running away under fire.
I will be very, very disappointed if the wealthy elite of our country don't immediately reserve a few weeks for the thrill of a lifetime — kill an insurgent for God and country.
