I had a little conversation with my right-wing neighbor today. He says he does not feel sorry for the people in New Orleans because they are all a bunch of "niggers wanting government handouts". I wanted to explode but my head was going too fast for my mouth to work. I simply walked way, without saying a word.
This is the same man who has fathered two daughters from two sisters, sees his daughters maybe, and I mean, maybe once a month, and has openly stated he will not pay child support.
He is alone and I used to feel sorry for him and invite him over for dinner from time to time, but I will not tolerate hate...so screw him. He can sit alone by himself on Thanksgiving this year. Maybe his callous hatred can keep him warm.
What a sicko world we have where people have such little compassion.

3. Population is a bell curve in terms of intellect and sophistication... |
|
Big question to me is, that neighbor of yours - does he fit into the center of the distribution...meaning they are the majority? Hard to tell. Unfortunately, most of us here at DU are probably in the very narrow empathetic, intelligent slice. So, it will always be frustrating, disappointing, challenging to us who are more aware, more feeling, more intelligent, more open minded. (Ironic part is that when plotting out the curve, the brighter end up on the right, as the X axis runs left to right in terms of increasing intelligence!)

5. Isn't that the Don Young bridge? |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 03:17 PM by ordinaryaveragegirl
And to think...it crosses to a remote island with a population of about 50 or so, if I'm not mistaken. Of course, the Repukes blow money on pork crap like this, not on anything that'll actually help anyone.

9. The "Don Young" bridge |
|
I believe is what they're calling the proposed Knik Arm crossing which would provide a second connection from Anchorage to the Mat-Su Valley. A lot of people live over there, and maybe the bridge would get some use, but it's really not necessary. Some Valley developers are probably looking at making a lot of money which is probably the impetus behind it. The other road to nowhere is in Southeast Alaska and is related to some mining interest of Frank Murkowski's, I believe.

the bridge to nowhere was in SE alaska, from ketchikan, to gravina island, to connect the airport to ketchikan, i may be wrong. I'm in sW missouri, and i read in an arkansas paper about a bridge to no where, and it dealt with my hometown of ketchikan, and a worthless bridge...the anchorage mat-su vally connection you mentioned, is new to me....but i'm out of state, so i am very uninformed in alaskan issues...

13. TWO bridges to nowhere |
|
The Gravina Bridge in Ketchikan and "Don Young's Way" which would span Knik Arm from Anchorage to Pt. McKenzie.

Whatever happened to needs testing? Republicans are the biggest pork feasters I've witnessed in my lifetime. They have totally fucked up this country.

But I hope all you people down in the South 48 don't think that we all wanted it. Many, MANY of us are embarrassed and ashamed at this blatant pork. The corruption and graft in the Republican leadership in this state, both federal and within the state, is mind-boggling. Somebody needs to come in here and do some serious investigative reporting. The Stevens-Murkowski-Young crew, in all its manifestations, has to GO.

I voted for Fran, too, and cried real tears when she lost, but I hope you know that Frank now has the second lowest approval rating of any governor in the country, and he's managed to piss off democrats and republicans alike. Ted Stevens and his lovely son Ben are starting to get on people's nerves, too, so there may be hope for us next time around. Keep the faith.
