"FREE SPEECH ZONE" in Juneau July 4th

Just wanted to pass this on to all Alaska Du'ers who might be in Juneau on July 4th. Juneau People for Peace and Justice will be having an open mike/soapbox event at Sandy Beach in Douglas from 1-5pm on the 4th(after the Juneau and Douglas parades). Come to listen, or come to speak, sing, read poetry, rap or act out a dramatic or comedic performance. We'll also be having participatory poetry and art activities(you can help create a group poem and/or contribute to a group mural). Express yourself on the issues of the day in whatever way you'd like. Call [phone] if you're interested.

1. How was it?

Do you know Paul Grant, ACLU lawyer in Juneau? Big bear of a guy, really good lawyer and nice guy?

2. Well, it could have been better.

We started it too early(too many people were tied up trying to get across the Douglas bridge)and I had trouble getting the sound system together. But there were some good speakers, poets, and singers and we learned a lot about how to do it right next time.

My plan is to try to have this event on a quarterly basis. If we have one in the fall, we'll let people know A.S.A.P.
